According to the 2020 Census, it has a population of 521 residents.<\/p><p>The name &#8220;Sabang&#8221; comes from the Cebuano term referring to the mouth of a river or a place where a river meets the sea, which reflects its geographical features.<\/p><p>While there is limited documentation on the detailed history of Barangay Sabang, it is part of the broader historical and cultural heritage of Siquijor. The island has a rich history dating back to the Spanish period, when it was known as &#8220;Isla del Fuego&#8221; or &#8220;Island of Fire&#8221; due to the glow produced by fireflies inhabiting the molave trees. Throughout the years, Siquijor has experienced Spanish, American, and Japanese influences, shaping the traditions and way of life of its people.<\/p><p>Barangay Sabang continues to be a vital part of Siquijor\u2019s cultural and economic landscape, with its coastal location contributing to fishing and tourism.
